Prioritizing Your Vision and Wellness

Regular eye exams are a vital part of your preventive healthcare plan. While many people associate a trip to the optometrist with updating a prescription, these visits are actually about much more than how well you see. During an eye exam, your optometrist monitors your ocular health and looks for signs of eye disease or vision problems.

By staying consistent with your checkups, we can track subtle changes in your vision and catch common eye health concerns early. We invite you to prioritize your well-being by booking an appointment at the Opticore location nearest you.

How Often Do I Need an Eye Exam?

Routine eye exams are your first line of defense against eye conditions. Many serious issues, such as glaucoma and diabetic eye disease, often develop without noticeable symptoms in their early stages. By the time you notice a change in your vision, damage may have already occurred.

To help protect your sight and monitor for these conditions effectively, we recommend that most patients schedule an annual eye exam. Consistency allows us to build a baseline of your health, making it easier to spot even minor deviations over time.

What Happens During an Eye Exam?

To prepare for your eye exam, make sure to arrive 5–10 minutes prior to your appointment time to check in. Bring your insurance information and a driver’s license or ID card.

Once you’ve been checked in, one of our optometric technicians will meet you for pre-testing. During pre-testing, they’ll go over your personal health information and complete some important forms about your overall health, family history, and any relevant eye or vision concerns. Then, they’ll complete any necessary tests, such as retinal imaging, refraction testing, and eye pressure checks.

Once the pre-testing portion of your exam is complete, you’ll meet with your optometrist to go over the results of your tests. This also includes looking inside your eye with a special microscope and determining your glasses prescription. If you’re interested in contact lenses, we’ll complete the necessary measurements to determine your prescription and size through a contact lens exam.

Our routine vision exams start at $79.00, and our comprehensive exams start at $120.00.

Our Technology for Eye Health Screenings

We believe that better data leads to better care. Our investment in innovative eye care technology allows us to provide a more detailed look at your internal eye structures than a standard physical exam alone.

Based on your specific risk factors and health history, our doctors may recommend specific tests to get a clearer picture of what is happening behind the scenes. Some of these tests include Optos retinal imaging, visual field analyzers, and OCT scans.

Using the Optos Daytona device, we can capture an ultra-widefield image of your retina, known as the optomap. This non-invasive scan allows us to view approximately 80% of the retina in a single capture, helping us screen for retinal detachments, tumors, and signs of cardiovascular disease without the need for dilation in many cases.

Our Optos retinal imaging package starts at $39.00.

This test measures your peripheral or side vision. It is a critical tool for detecting early signs of glaucoma, as well as monitoring for neurological conditions or side effects from certain medications that could impact your field of vision.

A visual field test may also be necessary for individuals applying for a driver’s license or certain professions, such as military, firefighting, and police, where clear vision is a requirement.

Our visual field package starts at $135.00 and includes Goldmann tonometry (eye pressure) testing.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) uses light waves to see beneath the surface of the eye. It provides high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve, which are essential for the early detection and management of macular degeneration and glaucoma. We can also use OCT scans to map the front surface and area of your eye, which can be used to monitor corneal abnormalities and to fit certain contact lenses.

We perform our OCT scans at our Redlands location in Citrus Plaza. These tests start at $80.00.

Conditions We Monitor For During Your Eye Exam

Beyond screening for sight-threatening diseases like cataracts and AMD, we also focus on the everyday comfort and clarity of your vision. We assess your eyes for refractive errors, like nearsightedness, and lifestyle-related issues that can impact your productivity and quality of life.

If you are experiencing any irritation or discomfort in your eyes day-to-day, please let us know during your eye exam. We’ll evaluate your eye health to determine if an underlying condition is affecting your comfort.

Dry eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough quality tears to stay lubricated. This can lead to a persistent gritty sensation, redness, and blurred vision. During your exam, we evaluate your tear film to determine the cause and recommend a management plan to improve your comfort.

With so much of our time spent on screens, digital eye strain has become a frequent complaint for our Los Angeles patients. Symptoms include headaches, blurred vision, and neck pain resulting from prolonged device use. We can provide strategies and recommend specialized lens styles to help reduce the stress on your visual system.

These common refractive errors affect how light focuses on your retina, causing blurry vision.

Myopia (nearsightedness) makes distant objects look blurry, while hyperopia (farsightedness) typically makes close-up tasks more difficult. We provide precise measurements for your contact lens or glasses prescription to help you achieve clear, comfortable vision at all distances.

Presbyopia is a natural, age-related change that makes it harder to focus on close-up objects, like a phone or a menu. It usually becomes noticeable in your early to mid-40s. We offer various solutions, including multifocal contact lenses and progressives, to help you navigate this transition smoothly.
